Clik here to view. The first week of the New Year is always a bit hectic. It’s back to work, and if you’re like most of us in tech space, you probably have about thousand unread emails in need of urgent attention. Worse yet, you might have missed out on some of the best software testing stories from the past week. Since I’m such a nice guy, I thought I would share a few of the ones that caught our attention.
Here they are, in no particular order:

According to Parmy Olson of Forbes – analysts, entrepreneurs and researches say that HTML5 will make a comeback in 2013.
Reports Say Apple is Testing the iPhone 6 and iOS 7 In-The-Wild: Software giant Apple may be further along than we think with their next release. iOS 7 and the iPhone 6 will surely be Apple’s next big move – and now, Matt Brian of The Next Web has reported signs that Apple is already testing the new software in-the-wild.
Internet Exploiter Finds Big Bug in Internet Explorer: Attention all you IE users: If you needed another reason to update your browser to IE10, then here you go.
Mobile Web Security Trips Up Cyber Security Experts: When your surfing the web you (supposedly) know you’re on a secure site when you see that reassuring little lock or “https” in the URL bar. But have you ever noticed that those visual cues are no where to be found on the mobile web? It turns out the lack of that little icon can trip up even cyber security experts. Georgia Tech produced a study that looked a mobile browser security and the results aren’t comforting.
Numbers: Most Popular Mobile Devices: Struggling with mobile fragmentation? There are so many mobile devices on the market today that it can be overwhelming. Crowdsourced testing will help you make sure your app works on a variety of devices (uTest’s Project Managers keep an eye on device popularity to pinpoint the big players) but it’s important to pay attention to the most popular devices earlier in the SDLC. Watching market trends is a good way to figure out what devices people are gravitating toward. And you can’t ask for a better window into consumer behavior than the holiday gift-giving season.
50 Million iOS & Android Devices Activated During the Holidays: This holiday season mobile devices, tablets and apps seemed to be the gift of choice. Mobile Carrier Shake-Up in Austria: If you’re testing your mobile app in-the-wild in Austria, you should keep an eye on the carrier shake-up going on. 3 has recently acquired the country’s third largest carrier – Orange. Here’s an explanation of the changes going on in the Austrian mobile operator market.
Forrester says In-the-Wild Testing the Key to Successful Apps: Forrester recently spoke to mobile developers and user firms to put together the Mobile App Development Playbook. They found that the key to a successful mobile app is in-the-wild testing. Margo Visitacion, writing about the playbook for SD Times, said “Prioritize testing in the real world. Brands live and die by how their customers view their apps.”
Canada Becoming an “In-The-Wild” Testing Ground: We often talk about in-the-wild testing without mentioning any specific locations. Most of the time, that’s because we don’t have a specific one in mind. If we did, that place would (more often than not) be the great nation of Canada. We’ve seen before why so many American gaming companies look North when testing a new application. Now, we see that Facebook is doing the same – testing a new voicemail service with Canadian users.
